Welsh Universities Fam Trip
|
| by Nastasha Park H.Y.(Malyasia) with lots of
help from Fiol Chow (Hong Kong) |
|
| Guess What? Fourteen of
Saint Michael's students and three staff were given the golden opportunity to
go on a three day trip to Wales to check out the universities in that area
(although we had to sacrifice our precious school time, every minute (off the
mini bus!!) was worth it!)

WEDNESDAY, 20th
April
Arriving at the magnificent Cardiff University, we had the opportunity to
become part of it's "Open Day". So much was going on and the campus
was just teeming with people from all over!
We had the privilege to taste actual university lectures on topics ranging from
how babies formulate their first words to informative talks on how to ensure an
edge over others when applying through UCAS. It certainly isn't easy to get
into Cardiff's highly competitive courses but that didnt dampen our aspirations
one bit!
Come night time our accommodation for the night was in Swansea. We had dinner
in a Chinese restaurant which was simply fabulous! The food simply disappeared
into our rumbling tummies before the cameras came in to capture the dishes.

THURSDAY, 21st
April
Early morning we hurried to our next destination, Swansea University. Time
certainly blew like the wind.
Where Cardiff stood majestic, Swansea was a sweet blend of modernization and
history. Students mingled with university sophomores, learning about each
others lives.
This was how we learnt that Swansea is reputable for engineering, boasting much
of the newest technologies.... and to top it off... fancy studying at a
University by the sea!! Hmmmm.... that's something definitely worth thinking
about! Swansea - where the mountains meet the sea...............
Next stop we found ourselves in Aberystwyth University.
Business students were given a tour around the college by friendly guides, and
the others were allowed to have a go at rock climbing in a room at the uni.
Phew! What fun that was!
We got to know even more about the town over dinner. Students who were
interested soon found out the town had everything from entertainment centres to
sports facilities. Quite an incentive to study there!
By the way our accommodation for the night here was better than before. It put
us in the mood and we sneaked off to the beach to have some fun, with the
starling sunset as our lovely backdrop. |

FRIDAY, 22nd
April
The hours spent travelling on the
minibus began to crease our faces (we really admire Nick for being able to
drive all trip though!) as we sighed and got ready for the three hour journey
to Bangor University. All the travelling was making it tired.
Upon reaching, we were taken to a
much needed lunch, and then for a tour around the campus.
Bangor had a pretty impressive
psychology and music branch, and students would have loved to linger a little
longer if it wasn't for time constraint. Although pretty remote, Bangor was no
less impressive than the others in other aspects. These three days were
certainly enlightening, but by the end of the journey, every single one of us
was missing Saint Michaels college desperately. So we kissed the
mountains and seas and streams (and oh how could I forget the Universities!) in
Wales goodbye, and headed back to our second home. Upon setting foot on Saint
Michael ground, students ran off to embrace their friends and their rooms.
University will come, but college life comes first!
