Help with completing your application form
Thank you for taking the time to fill in an application form. You should be able to cut and paste most of the content from your CV. We welcome any feedback on how the form can be made more user friendly.
Please note the following:
- (1) CV applications cannot be accepted
Child protection measures in the UK are rigorous especially for year round international secondary schools like Saint Michael’s. Therefore, we must ask you to fill in an application form before we can arrange a skype interview. CV applications cannot be accepted.
- (2) Skype
For ‘telephone’ interviews we cannot proceed unless you have a Skype address. Seeing you on Skype allows us to positively identify you and your documentation
- (3) Submitting the form
It is very important that you email your completed application form to BOTH of the people mentioned below in ONE email:
(a) For EFL positions: send your application form in ONE email:

- (4) Qualifications for EFL teachers
Following British Council accreditation guidelines, we can only employ teachers with a minimum of Certificate level teaching qualifications. This means either:
- A PGCE in English/modern languages with ELT/TESOL subsidiary
- A recognised TEFL course. A recognised TEFL course must:
- include 6 hours of observed teaching
- include 100 hours of ELT input
- be externally validated by a university or examination board
(see page 47 http://www.britishcouncil.org/2010-11_accreditation_handbook-new.pdf)
The most common recognised TEFL courses are:
- From Cambridge: the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA)
- From Trinity College: Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL certificate).
If your course is not from Trinity or Cambridge please call David Meddows (Summer School Course Director) on Tel: +44 1584 811 300 so that we can make investigate whether your qualification is valid.
- (5) Teachers who are not native speakers
We welcome applications from teachers whose first language is not English, but you must have an IELTS certificate with at least Level 7 in all aspects: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening or CAE grade “A” or Proficiency or other C2 equivalent from the Common European Framework http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_European_Framework_of_Reference_for_Languages
(6) Work visa
Do you have a visa to work in the UK? Unfortunately, we are not permitted to employ staff from outside EU, apart from those who have British passports or existing work permits.
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the ISA.
